- Foreground Service Usage Disclosure
Our app uses foreground services to support essential telehealth functions that must continue operating reliably while the app runs in the background. This ensures a safe, uninterrupted, and high-quality healthcare experience for users during consultations and health monitoring.
Foreground services are only active when required and are always accompanied by a persistent notification, clearly informing users that the app is performing an ongoing activity.
- Telehealth Consultations (Video/Audio Calls)
- Why: To maintain a stable and uninterrupted connection during live video or audio sessions between patients and healthcare providers.
- How: The app starts a foreground service when a consultation begins. This service keeps the real-time communication channel active even if the user switches to another app or the device screen turns off.
- User Notice: A notification remains visible stating “Telehealth session in progress” until the consultation ends.
- Continuous Health Monitoring
- Why: Some users connect wearable devices or sensors (e.g., heart rate monitors, pulse oximeters, or activity trackers) to share real-time health data with their provider.
- How: When monitoring is enabled, a foreground service continuously reads, processes, and securely transmits sensor data to our servers or clinical dashboard.
- User Notice: A persistent notification such as “Monitoring your health data” is shown while monitoring is active.
iii. Secure Data Uploads and Background Tasks
- Why: Certain large or time-sensitive uploads — such as consultation recordings, diagnostic images, or medical forms — must complete even if the user navigates away from the app.
- How: The foreground service ensures the upload completes securely and reliably, preventing data loss from Android background restrictions.
- User Notice: The user will see a progress notification such as “Uploading medical report”.
- User Transparency and Control
- The foreground service only runs when essential medical features are active.
- Users are notified at all times via a visible system notification.
- The service stops automatically once the session, upload, or monitoring is complete.
- No unnecessary data is collected or shared while the service is active.
- Data Privacy and Security
All information handled by foreground services — including call data, health readings, and uploads — is processed in compliance with applicable health data privacy laws (such as HIPAA, GDPR, or NDPR, where applicable).
Data transmission is encrypted, and no personally identifiable health data is used for advertising or analytics.
In summary:
The foreground service in our telehealth app exists solely to support critical medical functions like live consultations, health monitoring, and secure data uploads. It enhances reliability and user safety — not tracking, marketing, or any background data collection.
